Anything but Authentic
DESCRIPTION: We ordered two burritos with two sides each. It came with two bags of chips and "hot" sauce, including one marked with three skull/cross bones death hot sauce that I found a step up from mild. The beans were badly cooked, probably not soaked long enough as black beans need to be and had almost no flavor, severely lacking in salt. I could hardly taste the cheese at all. The rice was a very poor attempt at "Southwestern" rice. The onion in it was cut in huge chunks and the rice was a bit dry. I even doubt the owners of this restaurant have even been near the Mexico/California border. The signs and ads for this restaurant boast the best Mexican in Vermont, and if it is, I'm going to starve for the next two years, or frequent the Taco Bell (which is more authentic than Mexicali).

From South of The Border to Lower Church Street
DESCRIPTION: My wife and I have been regular customers (once a week or more for nine years) at Coyotes Cafe in Burlington. We are regular customers because of the quality of the food and the quality of the people who prepare and serve it. What is most remarkable about Coyotes is the freshness and variety of Mexican entrees available (some are based on traditional family recipes of rural Mexico, ie. the potato/corn burritos, the spinach/mushroom enchiladas or quesadillas, the queso fundido)in a restaurant in northern New England...so far from the source! We own a second home in Tucson, AZ. We frequent what we feel are some of the finest restaurants in the southwest(Mi Niditos, El Charro, La Parrilla Suiza-which serves traditional food from Mexico City, Casa Molina..all in Tucson. Los Dos Molinos and Via DeLosantos in Phoenix. La Roca in Nogales, Mexico. None have food fresher (except maybe the guacamole at La Roca) than Coyotes. Granted, there are a number of items available at all of the above eateries which are not available in Burlington because of either the location or the local personnel (cooks and recipes) in southern Arizona/Sonora, Mexico, but for Vermont, Coyotes does impressively well. We cannot recommend the jalapeno poppers enough. They are absolutely better than any we have had anywhere. They are positively fresh peppers injected with a marvelous mixture of cheeses and the oil of the jalapeno lightly batter-dipped and fried. We have been unable to find any to compare in all of our travels. One final word, the individual who indicated that Coyotes allowed smoking has never been to Coyotes. Coyotes has always been a smoke-free restaurant. Mucho amor, largo vida y buena comida!

Great Place for Drinks and a Bite with Friends
DESCRIPTION: Julio's has pretty good food and really great drinks in a cool environment. It's a great place to go with friends because it is often loud with the crowd of people in the restaurant.

DESCRIPTION: The food is so-so; I honestly try to avoid eating there if I can. The one exception, oddly enough, is their Mussels Cancun which are *the* best mussels I have ever eaten. Otherwise I stick with the burgers and drinks. It is a great place to toss a few back with friends after work and I will *always* enjoy Julio's, just not their food.

Margaritas
DESCRIPTION: Wednesday night Margaritas are cheap and good, despite the lack of alcohol. A nice atmosphere to hang out with friends.
