Good Newark Iberian with a PLUS
DESCRIPTION: Along with the typical (and good) Newark Iberian Menu of Seafood, Paella, Mariscada, etc. There is a huge selection of grilled meats and seafood. But the reason most people are here is the "Rodizio"... Brazilian-style rotisserie meats... lots of selection... all you can eat... and cheap! Service is exceptional, and it's a pretty place to top it off! Secure off-street parking (not in the best area of Newark, but worth the journey!)

One of the best
DESCRIPTION: Of all the Portuguese restuarants in this area, Fernandes is certainly one of the best. First, the place is very, very nice. Really nice decor, beautiful atmosphere... just a very cool place. Second, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel like a VIP. Third, the food is awesome. Whether you're ordering a traditional Portuguese dish, or Brazilian Rodizio, or even a more americanized meal, everything is excellent. And, despite what the person before me wrote, this is NOT in a bad area. Granted, it's outside the Ironbound, and isn't as pleasant as driving down Ferry Street, but it certainly is NOT a "bad" area.

DESCRIPTION: Exceptional dining in a warm atmosphere. Never rushed and waiters aim to please. Sangria is magnificent. Filet Mignon cooked on a roof tile is absolutely fabulous. Anything cooked on a tile is delicious.

My favorite restaurant in the area
DESCRIPTION: This is definitely the best restaurant in the area for Brazilian-style barbecue. I personally like the churrasco a Fernandes which is a huge plate of all different types of meat. Almost like a Rodizio, except that the quantity is limited and you can take the leftover home afterwards. My husband and I are good eaters, and we have yet to finish all the meat they bring for one person! For us, it's a great deal because we share the food, and we still have leftovers. Their rodizios are great, but I can't eat that much meat. It's kind of a waste of money for me. The only reason I don't give a full 5 stars is because the restaurant does not offer a non-smoking area. We try to go on weekdays when it's not that crowded, and we ask to be seated away from people who are smoking. The place is big enough to offer a non-smoking area. I guess the owner(s) must be a smoker. I did have a very unpleasant dinner when the table next to us was full of smokers. I agree that the location is in a bad area. Not the worst area in Newark, but certainly not safe. Just be cautious driving there. But once you're in the parking lot, you're fine. It's worth the travel.

The best in Newark by far!!
DESCRIPTION: This is the best Portuguese Restaurant in the Ironbound by far! Filet Mignon is just outstanding as is the seafood, and nothing beats the rodizio. Sangria is awesome as well, and you are never rushed. We sat from 8PM 'til after midnight! As far as location, just because it's Newark doesn't make it a 'bad' area. There is valet parking.

DESCRIPTION: I work all over New England, NY & NJ and take alot of people out to dinner in all of the major cities within my territory. This place is BY FAR my favorite place to go (Redbones in Somerville, MA is a close 2nd). Rodizio & Iced Tea... that's all you need to know.

DESCRIPTION: I've only been to Iberia Penninsula before and I wasn't that impressed. Ferdandez was great! We were greeted with a smile from the hosts and bartenders when we walked through the door. All of us, ages 12 and up, had a great time. Delicious food. The service was excellent. I also would prefer non smoking areas, and even though people around us were smoking, it was not a problem. The restaurant probably has an excellent ventilation system! Can't wait to go back!

Best in Town
DESCRIPTION: Fernandes is absolutely a fantastic place to go. Try their sangria! I have been there about 8 times and was never disappointed. The place is nicely decorated, and you don't feel ignored or unimportant. I have had both the rodizio and also steak and fish dishes (which I couldn't finish) and everything was done to perfection. If you have kids there is plenty of non-traditional items to choose from.

Fresh Seafood and Excellent Service
DESCRIPTION: At a Family gathering, we ordered the following dishes: stuffed lobster tails in which the stuffing was too salty; king crab legs which was served with only 1 and a half legs ($26); beefsteak with shrimps, very good; chilean sea bass, very good; veal with bananas in madiera sauce, the veal could have been somewhat more tender; and the broiled seafood combination, very good. The sangria needed a bit more brandy as it was a little on the weak side. For an Ironbound restaurant, we thought the bill was too pricey. Parking across the street. Excellent service! Fresh seafood. Only complaint was the experience was too expensive

Great
DESCRIPTION: The food flavor, texture and presentation are great. Portions are very large. The waiters are helpful and can answer questions about the menu. Plates are cleared away quickly and I have never felt rushed. The restaurant is clean and has a distinctive style. Patrons that frequent the restaurant are clever locals that are pleasant and welcoming. You get a good deal for the price and I highly recommend it. It is a great place to go with a group. In my experience, reservations are not needed except holidays

Ironbound quality at neighborhood prices
DESCRIPTION: Read about this restaurant here and decided to try it. BLOWN AWAY... Truly - Newark quality Spanish food at incredibly reasonable prices. Sangria was fresh and delicious, Paella Madiera - wonderful. Guests enjoyed the Lemon and Garlic Shrimp - huge, tasty and cooked perfectly. Even the desserts ordered (which we normally don't) were a taste treat. We fed 5 people for JUST OVER $100. Great Value!!! AND... The service was impeccable. Highly recommend Los Molinos - Try it, you'll be pleasantly suprised.

Go to the Ironboud
DESCRIPTION: Tried it when it first opened. Instantly turned off by the fact that the "non-smoking section" was in the same room (no partitions) as the smoking section. As far as I'm concerned, that means no non-smoking section. When I requested that a diner next to me in the "non-smoking section" put out his cigarette, I was met with resistance by the customer, and a smirk from the waiter when I complained. Wasn't impressed with the food since I was comparing it to the restaurants in the Ironbound section in Newark. Smaller portions, bad service. Decided to give it another chance recently. Still got the "non-smoking section" joke going on, and the food and the service were the same as when I first ate there. Go to Newark! The train station is three blocks away from Portuguese/Spanish food heaven.

This place is awful
DESCRIPTION: This place is nothing like the reviews. The waitress was rude and appeared to be upset at something. The food was plain and overpriced. We ended up paying almost $50 per person and left the place feeling ripped off. It was on a Friday night at 8 pm, and there were hardly any people there. After dining in the restraunt we understood why.

A Meal from a Box
DESCRIPTION: I recently ate at Los Molinos expecting, what else, a Spanish-style meal. What a disappointment! In Spain, the food is fresh, the staff is courteous, and the wine is fantastic. At Los Molinos, the staff was rude and unfriendly, my vegetable paella was straight from a box of prepared rice and frozen veggies, and they had no wine list. They had two kinds of wine, they said: yes, red and white. The prices, however, were as high as those in a good restaurant, which this is definitely not. What a rip off!

DESCRIPTION: When this restaurant first opened, it was wonderful. A recent visit, however, yielded horrible food and indifferent service. The mariscada was fishy and bland, and other dishes were poorly prepared. Too bad, this is a loss.

Do not go there for New Years Eve
DESCRIPTION: Last night, New Years Eve, My husband and I paid $100 each for what was the worst new Years At Don Pepe. I was served cold Lobster... it was awful. The tables were so crammed in, you could not get up to dance. The buffet was poorly laid out, there was food on the floor, we never did get calamari, the service stunk, we had to ask for eveything twice, and the music stunk. We feel very ripped off along with the other 15 guests at our table.
