Round Table has some seriously good food
DESCRIPTION: The Round Table serves traditional southern food, buffet style, with guests sharing large round tables (seating about 30). Although known for their fried chicken, there are plenty of other savory dishes to satiate the hungy. From casseroles, to roasts, from puddings to cakes, its all there. An after church lunch at the Round Table is always manditory on my visits to Columbia.

DESCRIPTION: Ajax has great Southern cuisine - the lunch menu is exceptional and the dinner menu offers a mix of "home style" favorites and ajax specialities. One of the best restaraunts on the square hands down.

Down Home Cooking with a Gourmet Flair
DESCRIPTION: Ajax Diner brings a gourmet flair to down home southern cooking. One can't go wrong with their vegetable platters, as their veggies rank among some of the best I've ever had. The only criticisms that I've heard of their veggies harken back to age-old arguments over certain schools of southern cooking. For example, some like a little sugar in their whole leaf turnip greens, and some prefer a little vinegar in their chopped turnip greens. With a friendly staff that remembers your name, has fun at work, and is always polite and prompt (if you are), you can't fault the service.

Perfect Southern Restaurant
DESCRIPTION: Ajax epitomizes what good a good southern restaurant should be. Great hospitable service, a wonderful environment, and excellent food. Every time a "yankee" comes to Oxford I reccomend they get a Southern orientation at Ajax.

BEST MEAL IN NORTH MISS
DESCRIPTION: I WAS TAKEN TO TAYLOR GROCERY FOR MY BIRTHDAY BY MY FAMILY FOR MY BIRTHDAY LAST YEAR. WOW!!! WHAT A SURPRISE!! GREAT FOOD, WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE, CATHCHERS CATCH CAN FURNITURE, DIM LIGHTING AND LOCAL MUSIC. THE STEAKS WERE WONDERFUL, NOT TO MENTION THE BROWN RICE, SERVED IN A CROCK. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WORTHWHILE DRIVE, JUST OUT OF OXFORD.

Best Food in Columbia
DESCRIPTION: Although the Round Table Restauraunt has the best fried chicken in town, their menu never changes. If that suits you, fine, but I prefer a more varied cuisine. The Back Door Cafe blends traditional southern fare with more contemporary items, catering to both the die hard traditional southern food lovers as well as the more adventurous. The menu changes daily, which allows diners to eat there every day without getting peppered with the same old thing. Excellent quality, ample portions, low prices. What else do you want?

Red Cross Volunteers LOVE the Back Door Cafe!
DESCRIPTION: I was in Columbia, MS for 2 weeks after Katrina with the Red Cross. We worked so hard every day. Three days before we left Columbia we discovered the Back Door Cafe and all of us fell in love with it - everything about it! The atmosphere, the building, the food, the owner and the staff. It is a complete dining experience. I live in Washingon, D.C. but sometimes I wish I could just pop down to Columbia, MS to have just about anything on the Back Door Cafe menu!

Don't Miss It!!!
DESCRIPTION: There is probably no one in Mississippi who has not eaten Fran s specialties as she has catered many wedding receptions and other events all over the state. Eating at the Backdoor Restaurant gives you the chance to continue enjoying her good food. (You might even be lucky enough to meet Fran, herself!) Living in Jackson and not Columbia has only allowed me to eat at the Backdoor Restaurant at lunch. The specials here are not to be missed! Someday I hope to have the opportunity to have one (or more) of the evening meals. Those menus sound so delicious! If you re ever in Columbia, don t miss this opportunity for a great food experience!

DESCRIPTION: I remain a fan of the Cobb salads with the decadent blue cheese dressing for lunch at the Back Door. However, having an option to dine on Main St.- where atmosphere, a diverse menu, and stellar food grace the evening dining experience-thrills me. I enjoy reading the informative essay re: the "On the Road" special and going on that sensational journey! There's a certain vitality in the air because the Back Door is alive and swinging!

DESCRIPTION: This is hands down the best restaurant in Columbia, every time I come to Columbia to visit I HAVE to go to Backdoor...I have never had anything that is less than exceptional. I recommend everything! Sit back, have a glass of wine, eat, and enjoy the art and atmosphere!

DESCRIPTION: This restaurant serves buffet style food. The vegetables are all canned, the fried shrimp is pretty good and I really like the grilled chicken. Overall, I'm not a big fan of these types of restaurants. This one seems to be cleaner than most of these types.
