An Oasis in a Barbecue Desert
DESCRIPTION: The fact is, whether people like to admit it or not, there is virtually no great barbecue in New England - just like there is almost no great Italian food in the South. Uncle Willie's is the delightful exception. The ribs - pork or beef - are slow cooked to perfection meaning they are usually eaten quickly. The basic flavoring is provided by a rub that makes the ribs tasty enough to skp the four sauces that are all top-notch. There is also a wide array of genuine barbecue side dishes and a great BYO atmoshere. I'm a rib fan first, but the pulled pork and fried chicken makes me long for Tallahassee. Check out the menus of other barbecue joints from around the country that cover the walls. Easy go to get to, located in a small strip mall.

As real as it gets!
DESCRIPTION: This is the most authentic bbq by far in the region- call early in the week and have him do a few ducks for you- incredible! His pit set-up is unique and everything is done carefully and correctly resulting in fall off the bone goodness at all times. Also real down home side dishes and a key lime pie with an ungodly flavor and density! This aint' no foolin' around...

Eating Bliss
DESCRIPTION: The food was outstanding, the service friendly and task oriented and the atmosphere clean, relaxed and comfortable . A good place to relax, chat and have a great meal in comfy clothes without having to do the dishes.

DESCRIPTION: I have been to Uncle Willies a few times and have always come away with a good taste in my mouth. The sauce is great on top of the pulled pork. It's been so good that the pig roast I do has decided to get their whole pigs from Uncle Willies.

I don't usually like BBQ...
DESCRIPTION: ...but Uncle Willie's is spectacular! I eat there quite a bit and there are always new, interesting dishes to try. I love the minimalist atmoshpere in which you don't even get napkins, but rather a roll of paper towels on your table to go with your paper plate and plastic utensils.

Best BBQ Around
DESCRIPTION: An oasis for a BBQ lover like me. Their buffets are a fantastic bargain - it's fun to eat it with their casual atmosphere and great blues CDs. I usually go for the St. Louis Ribs with half and half sauce (half hot, half sweet). One of the lovely ladies there makes a killer red velvet cake that we special ordered for Christmas last year. Four layers of fabulousness.

What a let down!
DESCRIPTION: I saw these reviews on here for Uncle Willie's and decided to give it a try. I consume at least 30 full racks of babyback ribs a year so I don't consider myself a newbie. The atmosphere was a let down right off the bat. I'm willing to ignore if the food is awesome. It wasn't! I got the spicy barbecue babyback ribs, 2 sides, and an order of chicken wings (Death hot). The ribs were terrible, very near the bottom of what I have had. One end of the rack was like charcol the other was was underdone. Both side dishes were average. The chicken wings didn't even bring tears to my eyes. When someone calls their wings "Death Spicy" I expect SPICY!!, not what I would consider medium spicy. I had to throw more hot sauce on it to get it up to my level of spicyness. They hotsauce they used is something that tastes very similar to Frank's RedHot. All salt and vinager and not much flavor and spicyness.

Best Breakfast in the State- no doubt
DESCRIPTION: Without a doubt, the best french toast anywhere... Don't believe me, read the other reviews. There's no better place for breakfast (and probably lunch) than Mama Roux's. Kim (the owner) makes everyone feel at ease and the food is out of this world. Again, DONT MISS THE FRENCH TOAST!

It's Hot Baby
DESCRIPTION: Mama Roux's had a hard act to follow. Marchells Restaurant which occupied their site for many years was awesome. I have to give Mama credit, she is doing something right. Getting in to eat here on the weekends takes determination. Be determined, it's worth it. Be fore warned the portions here are huge. I ordered two of the banana pancakes and had to take one home. They were delicious, loaded with fresh bananas. They have lots of omelet choices as well.

A Cajun Cutie
DESCRIPTION: Dear Friends: A Cajun Cutie That is what they should be calling this place. Its ambiance is as warm and inviting as Mama Roux herself. You will beat yourself up trying to figure out what took you so long to find this place. Patiently, I sat in one of the roomy booths looking around this pleasantly decorated room for this robust Louisiana Mama togged up in a worn apron appropriately stained with all the distinctive colors of Cajun cooking, but all I could see were several waiters (men and women) bustling about assiduously waiting on tables as they engaged in delightful, but abbreviated dialog with the patrons, who were eagerly waiting for their turn to order. Welcome to Mama Roux s Kitchen! Can I get you something to drink? Here is our menu. If you have any questions or just want to chat a bit, just let me know, said Mama Roux. I never would have been able to tell her apart from the rest of the crew had she not greeted me the way she did. Wow, a real person, not just a sign in front with a name! Needless to say, I was floored. I exclaimed aloud, So, there really is a Mama Roux! In this age of fast foods and uncongenial workers, I m here to tell you that not every eatery falls short of the mark. Mama Roux is the real thing. As for the food, well, finding this out for your self is part of the appeal of Mama Roux s Kitchen. Don t deny yourself any longer of this culinary find. Run; don t walk to Mama Roux s Kitchen. Be brave and order something different each time you go. Don t be afraid to ask Mama Roux for a teasing taste of something new each time you go. She is a total delight to meet and you will find yourself coming back for more, and more, and more. My only regret is that I didn t find Mama Roux s Kitchen sooner. Dinner sometime early April
DESCRIPTION: The pork ribs were really quite excellent; the meat was falling off the bone. I got the half portion of the ribs, and it was definitely enough. The coleslaw was fantastic - if you like a good simpe coleslaw with not a lot of mayonnaise to junk it up. As for the New Orleans/Cajun aspect.... Not so authentic, but decent I suppose for a New England attempt at Cajun cooking. Being raised for the last 19 years in New Orleans and an absolute lover of (good) food, I am able to speak from a pretty informed perspective. The "red beans and rice" were pretty dry, but the andouille sausage was pretty authentic. The "jambalaya" was actually more just like rice and a little bland for true jambalaya, but my friend (a thoroughly New England palate) enjoyed it. That's actually all I can speak from. The atmosphere was loud and rockin - perfect for college students like us. The service was a little lacking, but it might have been the UConn championship Final Four game that distracted her. All in all: stick to the BBQ and y'all should do great!

DESCRIPTION: My husband and I have eaten here several times. The first time was by far the best. I got the chicken and vegetables and it was fabulous. My husband loved his food as well. The service was good even though it was busy. I love the corn muffins! Since our first visit, the menu has changed. My husband is always happy with what he gets, but now I am finding it more difficult to find something I like... that is too bad because we liked it there.

Lacking Soul Except at Special Functions
DESCRIPTION: As far as ordering off the regular menu at Dorothy and Leeroy's I do not recommend. This restaurant gives people the wrong idea of what soul food tastes like. You can tell the collard greens are not fresh. And the mac and cheese taste like it came out the box. The fried fish you can tell is frozen. However, if you do have a chance to attend a function in the hall the food is much better. If you are used to soul food this is not your momma's - I would pass!

Very Fine Dining
DESCRIPTION: The Cottage is an event. Chef Patti Queen changes the menu monthly. Exceptional cuisine at a fair price. Very cozy atmosphere. Quiet and relaxed. Suit & tie not required. It is a step above casual but very comfortable. The wait staff is friendly and courteous and there when you need them and don't pester you when you don't. This is a 4 star experience.
