Even Though it's on the Menu, Don't Ask for an Ice Cream Soda
DESCRIPTION: Just a diner, nothing spectacularly good or different. Went a few times, then once I asked for an ice cream soda and was brought a glass of soda water with ice cream in it. Wrong! I sent it back twice before bolting because they kept insisting it was an ice cream soda. NOT! I've had ice cream sodas, I've made ice cream sodas and this was NOT an ice cream soda! Never been back.

Four Seasons is More Than a Diner
DESCRIPTION: Although you can find regular diner fare on the menu, along with breakfast any time of the day, you can also find much more. There is a list of specials that are available ranging from seafood dishes to veal Marsala to several Greek dishes. The food is good, although not excellent, and service is friendly and fairly quick. Breakfast on the weekends can be rather crowded, as can dinner. There is an excellent variety of desserts to top the meal, including Napoleons, cakes, pies and ice cream desserts.

Vastly Overrated
DESCRIPTION: Well, I don't know why Joe's gets such high ratings. I've been there twice, and the first meal was average (nearly $17 for two cheeseburgers, fries, and soft drinks) and the steak was tough and the eggs dry for the second. Had to stand up and and basically throttle the waitress to get our check, even though there were only two other people in the diner. I won't be going back.

It's a great Diner

What a Gem!
DESCRIPTION: On a recent Monday evening, I went along with my husband and our children to eat at Amphora's Diner Deluxe in Herndon. What a surprisingly wonderful experience. We expected a "diner experience" but instead were treated to a fabulous dining experience to rival many of the restaurants in the Reston/Herndon area. Had we not been shopping for a bakery (more on that later) we may never have visited this restaurant. The service was attentive, the food was delicious, large portions and quite reasonably priced. I ordered a New York Sirloin Steak, my husband ordred the Salmon Special, and our children ordered off the kids menu. Unlike many othe restaurants, were surprised that the salad came with the entree. My husband's special even came with a delicious crabmeat bisque. The food was wonderful and a great value. The children's menu is large and includes the soft drinks and dessert. As for desserts, that was entirely the reason for coming to Amphora in the first place. We wanted to place an order for a birthday cake and hence discovered the restaurant. The cakes and desserts are truly mouth watering. The custom birthday cake for our daughter was the talk of the party - It looked just like the invitation. They told us that all the desserts were baked in house. What a surprise. All and all a great experience! We look forward to trying Amphora for breakfast

Authentic roadside diner cuisine from an area classic
DESCRIPTION: There aren't many places like the 29 Tastee Diner left anymore. This roadside gem sits on Route 29 in Fairfax and has everything you'd want in a diner: greasy food, beaten up menus, low prices (a couple can easily come away from a meal spending just over $10), local characters, and a jukebox (though it is a CD jukebox these days). Though the portions are sometimes a bit small, the 29 Tastee Diner is a piece of Americana worth visiting. Considering the overdevelopment and general strip-mall nature of Fairfax, it's nice to see a place like this still around and doing w

Don't judge a book by its cover
DESCRIPTION: While many of my friends frequent IHOP, I remain a fan of 29 Diner. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but true to the old adage, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Although their menu might not be as large or comprehensive, I enjoy the atmosphere present at the Diner. It feels good to get away from the hectic Fairfax county life and sit down for a good, filling meal. 29 Diner remains a refreshing alternative in my mind for great breakfast food.
