DESCRIPTION: A friend and I stopped in for breakfast. I ordered "fresh squeezed" orange juice. Anybody that has ever squeezed their own knows bottled when they drink it. I had gravy and biscuits, she had eggs Benedict. Both were poor at best. The gravy had no flavor and the hollandaise sauce was incredibly bland. The "ham" was too chewy and her eggs were over cooked. Service was horrific. We barely had our order taken, and after that we had to fight TWO waitresses for one to-go box! It was so bad we didn't even leave a penny tip. The decor is mediocre. The place looks like it should be in a hick town in southern Illinois. They still had Chrismas lights/decorations up in mid-January. The lighting didn't help make it a charming place, either.

Not bad!
DESCRIPTION: I live in another state, but have eaten here quite a few times, visiting my sister who lives nearby. This is not haute cuisine - it's part of a phenomenom that I've found only in the Chicago area. That is, family style coffeeshops owned by Greek families, serving standard American/coffeeshop cuisine, huge meals, and a few well-done Greek dishes on the menu. I've only tried breakfast dishes here, and haven't been disappointed. They aren't the best I've ever had, but they're certainly far from the worst. Every time we've been there, we've dawdled over our meals, and the staff has never rushed us or made us feel like we were no longer welcome. Actually, they've been pleasant all the time.

Great Breakfast
DESCRIPTION: This is a place to bring your family, your friends, yourself, even your mother. They don't care. The staff is wonderful, greeting you with a smile and a laugh at the hecticness of business. It's crowded on the weekends and pleasantly active during the week. I have been there several times and never pass up a German Pancake, especially if it's for everyone at the table, and I can get the spinach omelette for myself. Enjoy!

Lousy service
DESCRIPTION: We went to the N. Clybourn branch and the service royally sucked. The place was packed and the wait staff began acting ornery and offensive. They were trying to make us leave so they could give the table to those waiting. Our particular waitress was not even willing to clean up our table because she said the next party might want the items. We have stopped going to Lou Mitchell's. I don't know what their deal is. First of all it is a rip off, just terribly expensive, the food is not something to write home about and the service, the service just sucked completely. Again I don't know what their deal is but they can have it and shove it. Good riddance!

Ridiculous!
DESCRIPTION: I will never return to Mitchell's. This morning, a friend and I stopped in for quite bite to eat. My friend decided to skip breakfast, but I ordered eggs benedict. To my surprise, when the bill arrived, it had a misc. $3 charge on it. When I questioned the manager, he told me that there is a $3 minimum per person. Just wanted to let everyone know. PS - stay away from the eggs benedict!
