DESCRIPTION: I happened across a small (tiny) restaurant while shopping in Leesburg. It has some of the best barbecue ribs I ve ever had. The owner takes great pride in his work, and it comes through in the food. I understand that they have live music on the first Friday of each summer month. The owner, staff and cliental were all very friendly. Big taste from a small place.

A Legend in the Making
DESCRIPTION: Aside from being a unique and sort of surreal Leesburg landmark, the Midget has great food. I live down the street and the aroma of continuous REAL Barbecue leaves me constantly hungry. Please support the Midget. The outdoor seating makes it rough on the owner over the winter. He has to make his money in the nice weather.

DESCRIPTION: It isn't easy to find, but by following your nose to the unmistakable smell of the smoker, you will be rewarded by some of the best BBQ ribs and pulled pork east of the Mississippi. Operating out of a tiny kitchen fashioned from a WW II bomber, the Mighty Midget's slow-smoked meats are tender, yet not falling-off-the-bone mushy. You can sink your teeth into the ribs and enjoy the spice from Brian's special sauce or, as I did, choose some added kick from the big selection of hot sauces housed in an antique Coke cooler that is also home to napkins, silverware and wetnaps. The ribs are only available on weekends and when the day's supply runs out, you're out of luck. Get there early. By the way, all seating is outdoors (the rest of the airplane must have been recycled into aluminum beer cans). And, pick a table without too much slop

GREAT Ribs, good slaw and pulled pork
DESCRIPTION: This place has the best ribs I have ever eaten - the best, better than Tennessee, better than Texas. Smokey, tangy, unbelievably tasty. The cole slaw is also quite good, with the right blend of spiciness and creaminess. The pulled pork sandwiches are also quite good, though not as mind blowing as the ribs. Note that ribs are only available on weekends - but they are worth the wait. This is not a restaurant - the seating is picnic tables/deck tables outside, so you're either doing takeout, or you're accepting the mercy of the elements. With the food, who care

Memphis BBQ in Arlington
DESCRIPTION: First the disclaimer: I've never been to a 'real' Memphis BBQ. That said, Red, Hot & Blue seems to really hold true to the type. This seems to be a chain, and the one I have eaten at several times is in the Crystal City underground, right near the Starbucks. The decor is interesting, with many cartoonish characters running around the walls in what's clearly a whimisical BBQ theme. The place is dimly lit, but quite clean and the abmiance is nice. There are separate bar and table areas, allowing one some choice. The food is served promptly, hot and generally quite good. There's a heavy emphasis on pork and bbq dishes, of course.

Best Memphis Bar-b-que outside the state of Tennessee
DESCRIPTION: I'm a native Memphian who lived in Arlington, Virginia during most of the 1990s and I am happy to report that RHB was nearly as good to me as actually being at a BBQ joint back home. Some Memphians would surely disagree depending on where in Memphis they eat, but overall they cook up the same kind of BBQ sandwiches - lots of pork, slaw and sauce between the buns - as well as ribs. Admittedly ribs are more difficult to judge because no place cooks them the same. Having also lived in Denver, where they apparently knew nothing of BBQ (Beef is all I found) and Minnesota, not too much better, I was more than happy to discover a place that cared more for fun and flavor than your health. Just like Memphis!

DESCRIPTION: We were weekly regulars at Annette's, and one night I drove up to find it closed. I called their number to find out more, and got Annette's voice saying they lost their lease and were closed for good. I almost cried.

DESCRIPTION: Food was/is fantastic!!!! The staff were absoulutely wonderful. I looked forward to visiting with them while my husband and I got our food. If you go out on http://www.anettesbbqheaven.com/ it does say that the restaurant is closed, but keep checking back for their new location opening this year (2006). I really do hope this wonderful restaurant returns.
