DESCRIPTION: There are other barbecue restaurants in town but Old Hickory is the best. I grew up there and was nearly an adult before I realized "barbecue" and "mutton" were not always the same thing! I live in England now, but every year make at least one trip back home and always have at least one meal there.

Best in the BBQ Capital of the World
DESCRIPTION: While not the most famous restaurant in town, Old Hickory is the best. As a native of the town, I have grown up eating at all of the different restaurants and now exclusively go to Old Hickory. The mutton and burgoo alone are worth the 3 hour drive home from college.

Best Barbecue in the WORLD!
DESCRIPTION: Okay, okay, I'm another Owensboro native writing to plug the best barbecue anywhere. I now live in Texas, and import it everytime I go home. My parents now live in Louisville, but it's worth the two hour drive to stock up! While my brother and dad would disagree, the chopped mutton is the BEST! (They prefer the sliced.) Been going there for almost 50 years since it was in the cinderblock place across the street. I loved the old place, the new one is, well, new. You hear a lot more about The Moonlight... but the locals all eat at Old Hickory!

Old Hickory is second to none!
DESCRIPTION: I really hated giving a less than perfect score for "service" and "ambiance" regarding Old Hickory because this is a place that makes you feel like you can prop your feet up and make yourself at home. The hard working employee's are not perfect and the restaurant isn't exactly a place to propose marriage in candle lights and mandolins softly playing in the background. But that's exactly why Old Hickory is the best place to eat...down home folks serving up the best BBQ in Owensboro and making you feel like you are part of their family.

DESCRIPTION: Moonlite is one of a kind. That is my only complaint, I wish there was one on every street corner. When you eat there, you'll wish there was one close to your home too. Casual Dining with a family feel. Skip the menu and head straight for the Buffet. It was every thing July's 2000 Gourmet magazine said it was. They even mail order their barbecue!!!

Mysteriously dubbed the best BBQ in Owensboro
DESCRIPTION: Moonlite has food comparable to every other cheap buffet. The side dishes, such as mashed potatoes taste like a cardboard box and the sauces used are rather bland and you will not leave already planning a return visit. If you truly want THE best BBQ in Owensboro make a Bee line straight to Old Hickory. On the upside, I was rather amused when Bill Clinton came to my little city on his campaign for presidency and shut down Moonlite just so he could pick up a take out order. The dumba** missed out. LOL
