Great for breakfast all day, pass on the rest
DESCRIPTION: Vertin's has been a landmark in Ely for many years and is still a hangout for locals wanting a cup of coffee and the latest gossip. If you're looking for a diner atmosphere, this is your place. Vertin's offers breakfast all day, a good thing. Don't bother with dinner, though. The meat is overdone, the vegetables soggy, the wild rice side is tasteless. Come early in the day for their famous homemade caramel rolls. They're unbeatable!

Wonderful breakfasts
DESCRIPTION: Wonderful breakfasts - hashbrowns cooked on both sides! Chicken wild rice and creamy tomato basil soups are a must to try when available. Their broasted chicken is the best I've ever tasted. Very friendly, efficient staff. In the evening the pub is a nice change from noisy bars. Great beer, wine and liquor selections. The new owners have brought Vertin's back to life!

Memorable--but who wants to?
DESCRIPTION: Opening scene: pleasant. Greeted nicely, table at fireplace. Waiter was slow, but reserved. Act 1. Request for additional salad dressing. Forgotten. Waiter was rude when asked again. Act 2. Walleye fish-n-chips: two small pieces of overdone fish, basket full of cold, overdone, greasy fries. Crab cakes low on crab, high on blandness. Act 3. Ribs so poor my wife didn't finish them, wouldn't take 'em home either. Bland, not bbq'd. Act 4. "Apple crisp" was anything but... it was more like cooked oatmeal with apple slices in it. Act 5. Memory to be forgotten.

Great place to have a Suprise Party!
DESCRIPTION: Dangerfield's came to mind when I was planning a suprise party for my boyfriend. Michelle (the party planner) was so helpful. The front room was the perfect spot. It was decorated so beautiful for the hoildays. The service we received from the two waitress was wonderful. Overall Good service, great food, and a fun atmosphere!

DESCRIPTION: On our way back from a long drive to Thunder Bay. We stopped in due to the traffic from the Labor Day weekend. We were amazed at the well done decor as well as the 1950's style that over took the establishment. Our meals were prepared quite well and with quick service. Betty (who wears a name tag saying "I am Betty") seated us herself. Everyone was having a good time, and the food was perfect. I had the Rueben and fries, my wife had the Hot Roast Beef with gravy. Our portions were more than fair and we finished the meal off by splitting a piece of "5 layer chocolate pie", you can't beat that for a meal right off the highway! We now will make it a point to stop anytime we are in the area for sure!

Went Corporate
DESCRIPTION: Betty doesn't even own the joint anymore, and it shows. The service was horrible. It was such a dissappointment. Having a cabin just up the road from Betty's, it was always a treat to have breakfast there. Times have changed. Don't let the new constructed building fool you. The food, service, and pies just are not the same.

I Stop Even When I'm Not Hungry
DESCRIPTION: I can't resist stopping at Betty's for a slice of pie, even when I'm not really hungry. This is some of the best pie in the country, reminds me of what Grandma used to make, with nice flaky, tender crust. The people there are great too.

What Happened?
DESCRIPTION: This is just as bad as eating at Perkins. This used to be a special place to eat. Not anymore! Food is below average. Service was horrid, and the pies might as well be from the grocery freezer. Very sad.
