Rita update
The 5pm EDT 5-day forecasted path shows Rita movign onshore around the Matagorda Bay area. The wind predictions put the Houston, TX and SE TX area on the “dirty” (or east) side of the storm, with expectations of a large storm surge, 14″ of rain (with possibilities of 15 - 25″), and hurricane force winds.
Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Galveston, and coastal regions of the Houston metro area (including Dimitrios City, Tiki Island, etc). Although voluntary evacuations are not yet in place for those in the low-lying and near-coastal regions of LaPorte, Deer Park, Texas City, etc, residents are being if they wish.
