Eric “Fyre” Scalf is a 29 year old geek, blogger, and author, who is currently living with wonderful wife, struggling to make ends meet, and searching for a meaning to liff.
Eric has been blogging as “Fyre” since 1998, and this is what he has to show for seven years of constant writing, sarcasm, and snarkiness.
Hello, I’m Eric “Fyre” Scalf, and yes, all of the above is true. I really am 29 years old, I do have a wonderful wife, I am trying to make something of a company, and if anyone ever finds the true meaning of liff, please let me know.
I have been blogging since 1998, in various forms. I originally started this blog to blog about blogging, and wrote several how-to, and “helpful ideas” series. After realizing that blogging about blogging was - apparently - the new trend, I decided to take some time off and get in touch with my inner blog (yes, I realize how trite that sounds, I’m gagging even as I write it). In early 2007, I returned, and changed the direction of MindBlog. Although I still discuss blogging, I’m spending more and more time discussing online earning, and my attempts to become financially stable via the Internet.
You now know the who and the what… Now here’s the why (the “why should we listen to you,” and - most importantly - the “why are you the way you are”).
I’m a rather eccentric, unusual individual, with a sense of humor that has been described by others as “truly inane” (no, that is not a spelling error). The vast majority of my life is spent trying to amuse myself (and failing). This should explain some things.
I’m a geek at heart, and have been working with these beeping machines we call computers since 1982 (yes, I was five years old when I got my first Timex Sinclair ZX-81 kit computer, that my father assembled and handed to me). Over the years I’ve gone from being a neophyte, to being an expert, to being an up-and-comer in emergent technologies, to being, simply, a power-user. Okay, so I’m a bit more than your average power-user, but honestly, things are changing so fast these days, that I don’t have time to keep up with it all.
In my spare time, I obviously blog, surf the internet for new and interesting things, participate in IRC chats, and write. I am a hopeful author, who is attempting to write his first novel. Don’t worry, I won’t bore you with excerpts, here.
I am currently on the look-out for someone who wants to re-write this bio in the third person. Why not, other bloggers appear to enjoy that sort of thing. Personally, I think a lot of other bloggers are - occasionally - full of crap. Oh, yes, that reminds me. This blog comes with a parental warning, and a rating of PG-13. If you can handle the occasional rant-based post including language some (people with sticks up their ***es) would deem as foul, then you’ll do fine.
I try to interact with my readers, often posting entries that end in the words, “what do you think?” I occasionally post entries, asking about you, in an attempt to learn more about you wonderful people. Please, do participate. You’re what makes all this time worthwhile.
I’ve been in the blogosphere for quite a while, although I’ve never really tried to make a go of it. Starting on various hosted-solution blogging services back in the day, I’ve mostly run personal blogs. Until now, that is…
Welcome, to MindBlog.
