Top 10 Women Bloggers of 2005

[?]

LiberalCowboy has compiled a list of the Top 10 Most Powerful Women in Blogging, 2005. I have to admit, I think this is a great idea. A lot of times, the men get all the attention, and people like Ana Marie Cox (Gawker Media), Jen Chung (Gothamist), Xeni Jardin (boingboing), Joi Ito (Technorati), and Mena Trott (Six Apart)… wait. Joi Ito?

Yes, that’s right, friends. Joi Ito has finally been outed for the transgendered female blogger that he is. I’ve known for years.. I’ve just been waiting for the right time to out him. Evidentally, now is the right time. I remember the first summer Joi and I met. I was strolling along the shoreline in Japan, and happened upon this obviously pre-operative transexual woman. (S)he was quite beautiful, actually. Sitting there on the sand, plugging away at a laptop, mumbling things about watch lists, and cosmos. I knew it had to be Joi Ito. …but a woman? Joi was a man.

I walked over and introduced myself, and had a sit down with Joi. Over the next few hours, she explained how she had never felt complete as a man, and just had this huge fascination with boobs, anyway, so she knew what she had to do. Ah, it was bliss. Though the next couple of years were hectic and trying - changing your sex is never easy - Joi made ir through, and emerged Joi, 8th most powerful woman in blogging! I admit, there were times when I didn’t think Joi would make it. But a some supportive words, and a little techo-geek nookie went a long, long way.

Joi didn’t want to come out to the Internet at large, to begin with. While the Japanese are often very accepting of all things sexual, Joi was afraid the rest of the world wouldn’t understand. But I knew that eventually, the world had to know. Now it does. All Hail Joi Ito, Sexiest Woman Blogger With a Schlong!

(The preceeding three paragraphs are entirely fiction. I’ve never met Joi Ito (although it would be an honor). To the best of my knowledge, Joi is male, and will remain male for the remainder of his life. According to his entry about all of this, he is most definately not a woman, although he is used to the misconception.)
