sensical ads?

Perhaps there is something to this “better ad unit placement” thing, after all. In just three days since adding a unit to the top of my blog, I’ve nearly doubled my adsense earnings. Of course most of those clicks came on one day, but still.. that’s quite a feat. I’m hoping the trend continues, and I will definately be trying Toivo’s comments, to see if that helps.

Of course, I could wind up with google taking off a dollar or two of that. That tends to happen, occasionally. Their algorythm tends to think that I’m clicking my own ads, fairly frequently. I think a good portion of this is that I tend to log in to adsense from various wireless hot spots, on occasion. Often, people from those hotspots will talk with me, and check out my blog while they’re there. I have this sneaking suspicion that google logs every IP you log into adsense from, and then discounts any clicks from that IP for the preceeding 24 hours, and the next 24 hours. I’m making it a point, now, to ONLY log into adsense from home.

So, I thought I would get involved online. I started out with Pacific Poker (part of 888.com and 888.info). After playing there for a little while (off and on for about a year), I decided to branch out.

Selling out?

I’ve thought long and hard about optimizing my google adsense units on my site. I’ve had adsense for a couple-three months, now, and haven’t yet made five dollars. In order to - hopefully - increase my revenue through adsense, I’m going to be optimizing my ad units.

The biggest change is the addition of a 768×90 leaderboard at the top of every page. While this may seem intrusive, it actually flows rather well with the site, and does not intrude on the overall design. A simple change to my spacer in CSS, and I’ve got a decent-looking ad unit at the top of the page. I added this unit since my original unit (on the right sidebar) originally existed “below the fold.” This way, I can have decent placement.

Wow…

It’s been a busy couple of weeks.

I’ve been working on multiple projects, and went out of town to visit someone I met online, several months ago. I’ll update more about the past two weeks, soon. My apologies, dear readers, for dead updates, lately.
