We’re off to see the wizard, and dorothy, and the lion, and…

Leaving tomorrow for Florida. Plan to do some serious blogging of random events on the road, and will be doing some phone posts on my LiveJournal (the only phone interface I have at the moment). Although I did manage to find the drivers for my USB cable to connect my laptop to my cellphone, so I will have Internet access while travelling. Admittedly, it will be slow, but it’s something to keep me occupied.

Will be meeting friends from LiveJournal, and - presumably - staying with them for three days. (I say presumably, but as far as I know, it’s a given thing.) Should be an interesting trip.

Snowfull thoughts…

It’s been over 14 years since I’ve had a white Christmas (or even Christmas Eve). It’s been over 12 years since I’ve seen steady snow that collects ANYWHERE.

It’s really coming down in Southwest Houston, right now. It’s beautiful. I stood outside in it and smoked a cigarette, and then just stood out in the snow, some more. When I went to go back inside I had to shake the snow off my coat and hat.

Installation script

Well, it was a bitch, but I finally have a working installation script. Of course, at the moment all it does is build the database structure and create the config file for inclusion. It’s also a good 32k long. But then again, I’m inputting a LOT of initial data for that mood table (something like 123 moods).

The next order of business is to get a basic template setup and write the page code for the administration interface. I’d love to use the layout I have for my own site, but.. well, it’s not mine. I’d have to contact Andrew Tedstone (which I think I will) and ask permission. Besides, it’s a little limiting on size.

Welcome

Welcome to The Fyre Place.

This entry marks the first official entry into this blog that is not for testing purposes. This entry also marks the first official entry of the live Fyreplace website.

Protection of admin

The admin interface is finally password protected, thanks to some nifty code stealing, and HELLA code modifying.

Haven’t put much work in on flameblog in the past couple-three days, as I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning on my bedroom (it’s needed it). I’m pretty much exhausted, right now, but I’m hoping to be back at the blogware within the next 24 hours.

FIXED!!

The CSS problems are fixed.

Thanks to a bit of javascript in the header.inc file (in the head section), I’m now differentiating between standards compliant browsers and Internet Explorer non-compliant browsers. Currently, however, people using KHTML-based browsers (konquerer, safari, omniweb, et al…) will still notice some very minor issues (mostly in the sizing of the sidebars and the links within). I have yet to create a seperate stylesheet for them, and don’t know if I ever will. The problem resides in how they handle CSS and display things. Technically these browsers are W3C compliant, but they render slightly differently than normal (Opera, Mozilla/gecko, etc..). Anyway, it all boils down to the viewer getting a different stylesheet depending on their browser type. If you experience any problems, just let me know (a comment here should be sufficient, I suppose).

Welcome to the (nearly) complete site.
The only things I have left to work on are:
-Archive interface (archive pages are done, I just need the interface)
-Catagories (especially nested catagories)
-Install scripts (this is VERY low priority)
-Template System (again, VERY low priority)
-Mood management interface
-Expanding the admin interface
-Various other sections as related to my personal stuff/site (as opposed to public blog distro)
-A base layout for inclusion in distribution (again, VERY low priority)

This had to be shared…

This is quite possibally one of the funniest comics I’ve seen in a long time..

Took a break for a few days from working on this project.

Next step is to enable comments. Then, I want to spend some time organizing files, etc.. and getting everything setup into a decent dir structure, implement some security, and start working on an administrative interface. I suppose getting final permission from Louise for the PHPCurrently inclusion would be a good idea, too. But right now my update/post page is a blah form on a white background. It would be nice to make it more than just a blah anything.

Not to mention I need to figure a way to do the mood inclusions properly.

A bit of a note…

Just wanted to drop a bit of a note in here..

While Andrew Tedstone did do the original template design for this site, I have sense made several modifications to it. For instance, in Andrew’s design, there were no right sidebars.

Once I complete the design of this site, I will attempt to obtain Andrew’s permission to re-release this template on my own site. The template “liner notes” will absolutely include Andrew’s information and a link to the original design of “Orange in the Mist”. For more information on the original template, check the source - or the “about” section, once I get it written.
